The recent Jodi Piccoult (sp) was better then I thought it would be, but because the issues leading up to it were so bad she wasnt able to fix it in the short run she did.

Gail Simone (Birds of Prey and The All New Atom) is on board and is doing a kick ass job. Her mind set on dealing with Diana is that she is the DC's toughest ass kicker. You want someone to fight a galactic invasion get Green Lantern. Someone to catch a mental freak slaying people, get Batman. Someone to go up against some alien powerhouse like Mongul get Superman. But you want someone to lead an army and win, get Diana. She seems to want to also use those powers of the gods so rarely seen. Diana does have the wisdom of Athena afterall. And you can see that in the way SImone is handling the alter ego Agent Diana Prince.

The art has been a bit cheesy for me till the last few issue. A bit too much T & A. Granted this is being said by a chick in fishnets.

I have totally fallen out of my comics habit. I'm not sure why. It started because of poverty, but then when I had more money coming in, I didn't start up the comics again. I guess because I felt like I needed to buy years of back issues and I couldn't afford THAT.

I love Wonder Woman as a character. She's one of my icons. But rarely has she been written well. I'm a fan of the original Moulton series and a fan of the Perez reboot. And that's about it for me. I don't like what Byrne did for her. And the dude that introduced the Hindu gods and shit? Turned me right off. I stopped even looking at the mag on the stands.

How's the book being done now? How much of the bad decisions of other writers are they tied into? Will Wonder Woman ever be safe to read again?

Supergirl is coming to the CW's Smallville. Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort just got the call Wednesday that she has been cast and will start shooting with Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum and Aaron Ashmore next week in Vancouver.

"She's a combination of beauty, intelligence, a certain warmth, and great attitude," Smallville co-creator Al Gough tells PEOPLE. "We've wanted a character to shake things up. She may be Clark Kent's cousin, but that doesn't mean she's going to be the obedient one!"

Since mid-May, when DC Comics approved of introducing Supergirl to the Smallville series, creators Gough and Miles Millar have seen hundreds of actresses for the part but found perfection in Vandervoort, 22, of Toronto, who may be known to fans of the cable series Instant Star as Sadie Harrison. "She was speechless but she was very excited," Gough says of Vandervoort's reaction to the news.

Supergirl will be introduced to viewers as Kara, Clark's cousin, who was born on Krypton and has all of Clark's powers plus the ability to fly. Watch for her to spark romance with Jimmy Olsen (Ashmore) as well.

I'm currently working on my Year in Review of Comics, so my thoughts are somewhat organized about what I'm enjoying and what I'm not enjoying.

I'm going to go by company, starting with DC. Obviously Birds of Prey is the best titles featuring primarily (if not exclusively) superheroines. In fact, I'll read just about anything Gail Simone writes and enjoy it. Wonder Woman has always been one of my favorites, and I guess it still is, but it's been largely missing in action for 2006. Hopefully Jodi Picoult will get things back on track in 2007. And poor Manhunter. It just gets better and better, and now it lost its second chance at life.

Justice League of America and Justice Society of America are currently strong titles featuring strong heroines so I'm loving them. Particularly intrigued by the new Maxine Hunkle over in JSA, and Power Girl and Stargirl are fun characters. I used to really enjoy Jesse Quick, so I'll be interested to see what the new Liberty Belle is like. Over in JLA-land, we've got Black Canary and Wonder Woman, what else do we need? Then we get the added bonus of Vixen. Now if Zatana guest stars, I will be so happy.

I gave up on Supergirl halfway through the year. The storylines were disjointed, the art was distressingly T&A, and Kara just wasn't forming any knid of consistent personality. Now they're refocusing Supergirl to appeal to women. I may give it one more try. (Man, I miss Peter David on this title). Then there's Supergirl & the Legion of Superheroes. The Legion has always been fertile ground for heroines, and I'm still reading it because of that, but there's something about this incarnation that falls flat. The characters haven't yet really become very distinct (with the possible exception of Braniac). So, I'll keep reading and keep hoping it improves. (Can't wait to see Dawnstar in JSA!)

The women in Y the Last Man kick butt. Brian K. Vaughn is another one who gets a free pass and I will try anything he writes. The title is getting close to wrapping up and I will miss it. As for 52, I'm following along, but not really for the heroines, although I like Batwoman, Montoya and Isis just fine.

Over in Marvel things are little trickier. My all-time favorite comic superheroine is probably Medusa of the Inhumans, and she had quite the year. Things started off strong with Son of M (the biggest surprise being that after the horrible House of M, Son of M was outstanding), and got even better with Beyond, which not only featured my beloved Medusa, but Firebird, another favorite with so much unused potential, and the Wasp, always fun. Now we've got The Silent War, also featuring the Inhumans and Medusa, so I'm excited about that. Big year for such a second tier character!

SPOILERS in next paragraph!
You
were
warned
.
.
.
.
.
Another favorite heroine of mine is Moondragon, and she got a little love (not much, but better than nothing) in what is arguably the best of the Marvel events this year, Annihilation (don't even get me started on that Civil War crap). While Annihilation was heavy on the testosterone, I'm a bit of a fan of the cosmic characters, and Gamora certainly rocked. Plus, I got to see Moondragon again, along with her girlfriend Phylla. And the best news of all is what will be coming up! The fanboys are outraged, but I am thrilled about the new Quasar miniseries. So they all thought Wendell Vaughn was coming back to life for this miniseries, but in fact, Phylla inherits the mantle (along with his wrist bands) and she will be the star of the miniseries. Now, I'm not such a huge fan of Phylla, although I find her intriguing, but I am hoping beyond all hope that her girlfriend, yes, that would be Moondragon, will be at her side in this miniseries. Plus, surely this is the very first series or miniseries to feature a lesbian character in the title role!

My other favorite heroine didn't fare quite as well over at Marvel. That would be The Inivisible Woman. She got some love from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, writer of the now cancelled 4, who clearly loved the character as well. But when that title disappeared, the FF got hijacked by the Civil War, and despite Sue's heroic act in that storyline, she was little more than background dressing. Now she's being shunted off the team to be replaced by Storm. Sigh... I hope that's a short leave of absence.

Over in the X-titles, which for the most part I have written off, we do still have one crowning jewel, and it's close to being my number one read each and every month. That's X-Factor of course, and while I love the heroines in that title, the credit for this one's success if definitely Peter David. While I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Wolfsbane, the others (Siryn, M, and Layla Miller) were never all that interesting. In fact, I thought Layla Miller was one of the most disastrous things to come out of the abysmal House of M. Imagine my huge surprise when Peter David made me love ALL of these characters. X-Factor just makes me so happy, and now I'm a total Layla Miller convert. And as for Astonishing? Sure Joss started things off strong, and perhaps he'll end them strong, but the middle has been pretty disjointed. I think I've only kept reading for his wonderful treatment of Kitty Pride, another of my favorite heroines who's been getting some love recently.

I enjoyed Daughters of the Dragon/Heroes for Hire for the high heroine content. The stories are a little cheesey, but they're lots of fun, and I'm a longtime fan of Colleen Wing and Misty Knight (although I wonder if anyone remembers that Chris Claremont always thought of Colleen as a lesbian). Not quite the Marvel version of Birds of Prey, but fun nonetheless.

Dan Slott writes a fun She-Hulk (although I mourn the passing of his Thing series, which, despite the lack of heroines, was top notch), now I just wish they could get an artist worthy of the title. Tried Ms. Marvel, but just couldn't enjoy it. And in a huge turnaround, Spider-Woman, who was my favorite heroine back in the 70's has been so Bendis-ized that I can no longer stand her. AND it's only the second time in my history of reading comics, that I've dropped the Avengers (the first time was the fault of Rob Leifield). I have a complex relationship with Bendis. Alias was one of my favorite titles, and I do love Jessica Jones, but anything Avengers-related that he has been responsible for has just been miserable. Sorry Bendis fans. White Tiger is interesting, and I'll probably stick with it until the end of the mini, but it's not a top read. And while Nextwave is fun to read, and features three kick-ass heroines, I do hope that Monica Rambeau (aka Pulsar) regains her former personality some day.

Finally, over in the land of independents, I have to mention Peter David's other wonderful title, Dark Angel. Now there's a complicated heroine if ever there was one. And while their not "super" they're certainly heroines, and that's the many female leads in Terry Moore's wonderful, and ending-all-too-soon Stranger in Paradise.

Sorry for the long ramble!

Yeah. I think the long hiatus from comics is making it so that it'll be trade paperbacks most of the time now, for me.

Yep. ISIS is married to Black Adam, and her little brother Osiris is their equivalent to Capt Marvel Junior. You could problally wait a few months and 52 will be out in Trade. Both Batwoman and ISIS are featured in it

I've been completely lazy about going to the comic store. Before I wasn't buying because I didn't have the money. Now I have a bit more money but I'm so far behind on subs that it would cost me a fortune to catch up. I'd like to see the new Batwoman stuff. They brought back ISIS, huh?

The must haves

Top 3 for me
Birds of Prey
Catwoman
Manhunter (I hope it comes back from hiatus or bimonthly status or whatever it seems to be on)

others
Checkmate has some good female characters (Love Amanda Waller)
Anything with Powergirl so I always get any JSA out there.
Hawkgirl (always liked her more then Hawkman anyway, he's such an ass)

Supergirl title is alright but seems to be looking for direction

52 is eh, but worth while for 3 characters Renee Montoya, Batwoman and ISIS.

And loving the new Justice League featuring 2 of my all time FAVES Black Canary and Vixen as well as Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl.

In regards to Marvel

Ms Marvel's new title is fun so far, always liked her.

Anything with Spiderwoman/Jessica Drew is a must so New Avengers

Really like the Ultimate FF's Invisible Woman
and the way Invisible Woman is being handled right now , having left Mr Fantastic to fight on the other side of the Civil War conflict, is good.

Montoya started in the cartoon and like Harley became popular and was moved in to the comics. She became a main character in the series "Gotham Central" that feature the GPD. She is a main focus in the current series 52. Working with The Question while Batman is missing for a year.

The old Kathy Kanes neice was called Betty Kane. In post crisis (the 1st crisis 20 years ago) Betty Kane became Bette Kane a former athlete and obsessed fan of Nightwing. So she created a superheroed identity of Flamebird (Nightwing and Flamebird were "the dynamic duo" of a kryptonian city. thats where the names come from) to try and win Nightwing over.

Now I want to say that somewhere Bette did mention an Aunt Kathy. Hope it turns out to be her. Then Bette can become the new Batgirl since Cassie has seemingly joined the dark side.

Kathy Kane is the name of the original Batwoman character. Was the name of the original Batgirl Bette?

I have been away from comics long enough that I didn't realize Montoya had become popular. But just based on BTAS, I love Montoya.
